The four of the Malvinas
Teammates and the coach of the soccer team mourn over the coffin of 15-year-old Ismael Arroyo at his family’s home in the Las Malvinas neighborhood, south of Guayaquil. Ismael and his 14-year-old brother Josué disappeared on December 8 after leaving a sports practice. Along with two other minors, they were detained by the military and found burned two weeks later in a rural area controlled by criminal groups. Four months later, members of the Air Force confessed to torturing them before abandoning them. The case sparked national outrage and has been described by human rights organizations as a possible forced disappearance.
