The Kalunga Empire Festival is a cultural and religious event of great importance celebrated in Vão das Almas, in the Kalunga territory, in Goiás. Through it, the Kalunga community has preserved its traditions and religious practices for over 300 years.
The festival, held in August, pays homage to Our Lady of the Abbey, a highly respected figure in Brazilian Catholicism. This annual pilgrimage blends Catholicism with Afro-Brazilian spiritual elements, reflecting the resilience and cultural richness of the Kalunga people. Participants travel long distances to take part in processions and community celebrations commemorating their ancestral heritage.
