Post-humans and cyborg dreams of + beings in the Andes

“Post-humans and cyborg dreams of + beings in the Andes” is a visual essay begun in 2023 in the department of La Paz, Bolivia, based in its highland villages and the city of El Alto. These images represent the bodies and knowledge of local women who, together with non-human entities such as plants, animals, and landscapes, evoke ancestral practices typical of Andean rituality and emulate their relationship with technology.

Real and imaginary spaces are recontextualized through the use of RGB and LED lighting, which generate hybrid atmospheres in which the bodies of the protagonists are transformed through the simulation of artifacts. The play of temporalities seeks to establish science fiction in the territory itself. Thus, rituality materializes and extends in a context of accelerated globalization between cybernetics and technology, which constantly transforms the local cultural landscape.

This project arises from an authorial conceptualization and becomes a collective performative act with a situated, self-managed, and collaborative methodology, where the boundaries between the urban and the rural dissolve. The locations were determined in dialogue with the participants themselves: terraces, family villages, and intimate landscapes.
